Lineage

The ruling dynasty in Akkalkot descends from Shree Ranoji Lokhande, who was adopted by Maharaj Chhatrapati Shahuraje Bhosle, grandson of Maharaj Chhatrapati Shivajiraje Bhosle, around the year 1708. Upon his adoption, Shree Ranoji assumed the name ‘Fatehsinh Bhosle’ and received the town of Akkalkot and its surrounding areas as an appendage. These estates remained a fief within the state of Satara until 1848, when the British deposed the rulers of Satara (Maharaj Chhatrapati Shahuraje Bhosle’s designated successors).
