Akkalkot Royal Family Dynasty
The ruling dynasty in Akkalkot descends from Shree Ranoji Lokhande, who was adopted by Maharaj Chhatrapati Shahuraje Bhosle, grandson of Maharaj Chhatrapati Shivajiraje Bhosle, around the year 1708. Upon his adoption, Shree Ranoji assumed the name ‘Fatehsinh Bhosle’ and received the town of Akkalkot and its surrounding areas as an appendage. These estates remained a fief within the state of Satara until 1848, when the British deposed the rulers of Satara (Maharaj Chhatrapati Shahuraje Bhosle’s designated successors).

Fatehsinh Bhosle III
Fatehsinh III was a great collector of weapons and arms. He made the armoury museum, a one man collection which is biggest in Asia. Housed on the first floor of the New Palace, the museum has the finest collection of ancient weapons treasured in India and The East. The majority of these date from old Maratha times and many of them are now exceedingly scarce and of priceless value.

Fatehsinh Mahal
The Fatehsinh Mahal (New Palace) was constructed under the rule of Fatehsinh III Bhosale and is named after him. It is also known as “Fatehsinh Mahal” and “Bella Vista”. The costruction was completed in 1925.
The New Palace is a fine specimen of combined “Doric” and “Corinthian” architecture which has a porch and a tower with a clock facing all four sides.

A Brief History
of Akkalkot
The History of the Akkalkot Royal family can be dated back from the 17th century. Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, born in 1682, was the grandson of the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Chhatrapati Shahuraje’s life unfolded against the backdrop of Mughal captivity, political maneuvering, and a relentless struggle for the Maratha throne.
Satyameva Jayate
The Akkalkot Royal Family Owned the Monogram “Satyamev Jayate”. This Monogram of the State, was adopted by the Indian Government after Independence. “Satyameva Jayate” meaning “Truth Always Prevails”. Today, only Akkalkot Royal Family is allowed to use it, apart from The Indian Government Establishments.
