Adoption and ascension to the Gadi

Shrimant Rajkumari Sunitaraje and Shrimant Rajkumari Sanyuktaraje were devoted followers of Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj. Whenever they both came to Akkalkot, they used to visit Shri Swami Samarth temple with deep devotion. During the occasion of Shri Swami Samarth Punyatithi the death anniversary, they used to perform morning worship and offer midday prayers. They also personally visited the Shri Vatavriksha temple to engage in worship with utmost devotion, offerings, prayers, aarti and actively participated in the celebrations and served free food to everyone at Swami Samarth ashram. The unwavering faith in Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj, was inherited from Shrimant Maharaj Malojiraje II and it continues to be preserved by the succeeding generations of the Royal family.

Shrimant Fatehsinh Maharaj III, established a museum which was unique as it was the largest one man owned armory museum in Asia. It was located at the old palace. The weapons in the collection were prone to damage due to dust and moisture. With great effort to ensure their safety and preservation, Srimant Rajkumari Sunitaraje rejuvenated the entire collection by relocating all the weapons and other artifacts to the new palace, meticulously maintaining their condition. Additionally, she added new items, improving the overall arrangement. Her dedicated efforts revitalized the museum.

Shrimant Rajkumari Sunitaraje never married in her lifetime. After the Single parent adoption became legal in India, she found a way to give legal heir to Akkalkot. Though she herself did not adopt a child but she whole heartedly supported and consented to her sister Shrimant Rajkumari Sanyuktaraje to adopt Manajirao on, 3rd January 2005. He was the younger son of Adv. Shri Jayajirao Raje Bhosle of the Kurla Raje Bhosle family. After the adoption Manajirao was named as Shrimant Malojiraje lll. After the demise of Shrimant Rajkumari Sanyuktaraje on 4th of May 2018, Malojiraje III was coronated as the Rajasaheb of Akkalkot, succeeding the Royal “Gadi” throne of Akkalkot.

Regarding the decision of adoption, Shrimant Sunitaraje said, "We had been contemplating adoption for many years within our extended family. However, we couldn't find the right track. When the Single Parent Act came into force, we found our way. We made the decision to adopt a son. The search for a suitable son began, and we explored various heritage families. Unfortunately, we didn't find a suitable, matching boy for us. Several years passed. Finally, we found a boy of the Raje Bhosle family from Rajache Kurle, a village in Satara district. Shrimant Maharaj Fatehsinhraje III of Akkalkot had previously adopted a son from Kurla Raje Bhosle Family. Thus we decided to adopt Manajirao the younger son of Adv. Shri Jayajirao Raje Bhosle and Shrimati Jayprabhadevi Raje Bhosle. He was perfect for our choice, so we are now adopting him”. Shrimant Sunitaraje Bhosle passed away on 5th November 2019.
